Standard Anatomical Views in One Click With Our New Gizmo

When we talk about our patients, we use very specific terminology for the view we have of the animal: lateral, dorsal, cranial and so on. Getting exactly those views in 3D used to involve a lot of fiddling around (especially on a trackpad), and they were never quite square on. So we've added a positioning gizmo. 🧭

We've since added labels to the gizmo. Here's that update:

One click to a standard view

The gizmo sits at the bottom of the screen. Click its buttons and you're taken straight to the standardised views of the anatomy. The block in the middle switches the camera between perspective and orthographic, so with an orthographic camera you're exactly square on, just like a textbook diagram.

Labels that tell you where you are

We've now updated the gizmo to also display the name of the view you're looking at. As you move around, the text changes: ventral, dorsal, left lateral, cranial and so on. It works for every scene and uses the correct naming for each region, so on the head you'll see rostral and caudal, and on a limb you'll see proximal and distal. A small change, but one that you asked for, and a nice way to reinforce your directional terms.
