The Equine Abdomen in 3D: Making Sense of the Gut

Our equine abdomen content focuses primarily on the gastrointestinal tract of the horse. 🐴 It's an area that's particularly tricky to understand from a textbook, or even from the diagrams in the standard textbooks.

The caecum and the colon

The tricky part is mainly the caecum, its relationship to the ascending colon, and the different levels and flexures of the colon. We'd hazard a guess that within five or ten minutes of using this content, you'll have a clear understanding of the different parts of the colon and how they relate to one another. That understanding pays off when you're thinking about rectal examination findings or the different types of colic.

Test yourself

We've also got our Test Yourself feature in here. Go into Test Yourself mode, click on an organ or part of an organ, and see whether you can name it. In the video we correctly identify the left dorsal ascending colon.
