Red Blood Cell Pathology: A New Flashcard Deck
To complement our existing deck on red blood cell physiology, we've released a deck on red blood cell pathology. 🩸 It's a great way to learn everything from staining techniques to common parasitic diseases and hereditary diseases, all across a variety of species.
How the deck works
The deck goes over the basics of red blood cell pathology in 50 cards, written by Dr Balaji Ramanathan and Dr Julie Allen. You can flip a card by clicking it or with your up and down arrow keys, and move through the deck with the on-screen arrows or your left and right arrow keys.
The kind of questions you'll meet
Some examples from the video:
- What is a codocyte and why does it occur? (Think target cells, and the conditions they can be seen with.)
- Which plants have been associated with haemolytic disease in the horse?
- Why are nucleated red cells and basophilic stippling without anaemia concerning for lead poisoning?
- What red blood cell abnormality can be seen in dogs with portosystemic shunts?
These are exactly the findings that turn a routine blood smear into a diagnosis, so it's well worth having them at your fingertips. For tips on building your own decks from our cards, see our post on veterinary flashcards.
