Seizure Disorders Flashcards, Built From Real Cases
Is your patient seizuring, collapsing (or just a bit cuckoo)? If you're not sure, our new seizure disorders flashcard deck is for you. 🧠⚡ It demonstrates the different shapes and forms of seizure activity that might present to you across a variety of species.
Real cases from the VIN message boards
The deck is built from real cases from the Veterinary Information Network. You're shown videos of animals showing various signs and asked to think about what you're seeing. Further cards add more case information and some prompts to guide your approach, and we try to include discussion of causes, diagnostics and treatment options too. There are around 40 cases in there.
In the video, for example, we meet Sydney, a 3-month-old female British Shorthair kitten with episodes of lethargy, facial twitching and hypersalivation after eating. Her bloodwork was unremarkable and she was FIV and FeLV negative. What's going on? We wouldn't want to ruin it for you :)
Build your confidence
The hope is that after working through the deck, you'll feel much more confident recognising whether your patient has a seizure disorder, and you'll know some of the basics of what to do next.
Where to find it
On VIN, students will find it via the flashcards link in the Student Center, and everyone can find the decks under Library > Multimedia. On IVALA Learn, it's in the flashcard library: scroll down the Library page, or use the What's new section to jump straight there.
